Outdoor Gallery

Image

This is an outdoor gallery project initiated by Worcester City Council, Worcester BID and Severn Arts who commissioned eight artists to dress vacant retail units.

My design represents the vibrancy of Worcester Town Centre and contains the phrase 'Hope and Joy' written twenty times throughout the artwork.

The inspiration for the layout of the design came from a photograph of a shop in Worcester City Centre. Each of the windows represents the different type of retailers in the City. In the distance are some of the City’s landmark buildings and under the arches are the names of the City’s shopping areas. I chose to use bright colours to emphasise the joy people get when visiting their favourite shops.

The design was originally created as four individual textile panels enhanced with embroidery. They were photographed and digitally edited together and printed on plastic film for the window.
